Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery

Abstract

|
|
We experienced 11 cases of video assisted thoracoscopic surgery(VATS) from May 1993 to November 1993. The indications of the surgery are spontaneous pneumothorax in 9 cases, and mediastinal mass in 2 cases, which are confirmed as chronic
granulomatous
inflammation in one case and schwannoma in the other case. The mean tube indwelling time is 5.1 days(2-11 days) and the mean postoperative hospital stay is 6.2 days(3-12 days). VATS provides less postoperative pain, good cosmetic result, and
rapid
recovery.
